i7 6700k bus comparison with multiplier overclocking
Hello everyone,
I’m using my i7 6700k with an overclock on my z170 deluxe. The settings raised the multiplier from 42 to 45 and the bus frequency from 100 to 103. On the CPU Z, under load it shows the core at 4.6ghz (bus 103, multiplier 45). Does this really mean the CPU is at 4.6ghz or is it closer to 4.5 because only the multiplier affects speed? Thanks.
The question is whether the BCLK influences the CPU speed as significantly as the multiplier. The answer is yes, because both factors contribute to the overall speed in the same way.
You're puzzled enough that you shouldn't be overclocking. The bus speed is the standard speed, and the multiplier is just a direct number. 103MHz base with a 45x multiplier equals 4.635GHz.
The question is whether the BCLK influences the CPU speed as significantly as the multiplier. The answer is yes, because both factors contribute to the overall speed in a balanced way.
