My friend has an i7 13 700k and I have an i9 10850k. I’m checking the 13th and 14th generation CPU situation and wondering if his processor might be damaged. The BIOS hasn’t been updated at all—last update was in 2022. I’m unsure how to tell if his CPU is already broken before making a change, especially since newer BIOS updates have fixed this problem.

I’ll update the bios right away, assuming I didn’t realize about the cpu damage in the original post. It’s really frustrating to learn it’s damaged and then have to switch back. Is there any way to check for damage before making the change?

You can't assess the CPU's condition until you physically install it.
I mean...you can check for visible signs of harm, but that's all.
What could cause such issues?

The 13th and 14th generation CPU models face a voltage problem that can lead to irreversible harm unless a microcode update is applied to the BIOS. An outdated BIOS combined with these CPUs may result in permanent damage.

Since it's a 13th generation processor running for three years on an extremely outdated BIOS lacking the "fix" feature,

Well...
By agreeing to this change, you won't be able to understand the CPU's condition until you install it and verify its functionality.
