i5-9600K experiences overheating at low temperatures
I own an i5-9600k processor with a deep GX400 cooling solution. It hasn't been overclocked. While checking Open Hardware Monitor, one temperature consistently hovered between 90-105 degrees. After removing the cooler and reapplying thermal paste, the readings stayed unchanged.
It's a fake temperature sensor, often displaying around 20°C. The main controller usually handles many temperature readings, but some aren't active, causing the program to show unexpected numbers.
Consider using HWINFO64 instead of HWmonitor to check for consistency. The other tool is unreliable.
