Hey Guys,
I’m starting from zero and have no experience with overclocking. I’ve looked into some guides, but each motherboard has its own settings and I’m unsure what to adjust. If anyone can assist in upgrading my i5 8600k to 5.1 or 5GHz—especially considering the specifics for this board—it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Initially, improper overclocking may harm or even destroy a component. Keep this in mind.
Additionally, we cannot provide a precise value to reach your goals since each system is unique, requiring different voltage, frequency, and temperature settings.
The guidelines for overclocking are:
First, set everything to auto mode, then perform a stress test. Record your CPU voltage and frequency, and manually adjust them in the BIOS.
You have two main options:
1°/ Improved performance: Increase the multiplier until stability is lost, then raise the voltage slightly (increments of 0.025–0.05V). Once you hit your desired frequency, reduce the voltage as much as possible while keeping stability.
2°/ Better thermal management: Maintain the original frequency and lower the voltage as much as feasible until stability returns.
Note: I have the 8600k on the MSI SLI Plus, so we share the same BIOS (simpler assistance).
Rodolphe.
