i5 7600k shows stronger results compared to r5 2600 in CSGO
I recently switched from my 3-year-old 7600K to a Ryzen 5 2600. I kept the same RAM and GPU (two 8GB Corsair LX series at 3200MHz and an ASRock RX 570 8GB at stock speed). I was considering a high-refresh-rate monitor, but performance is lower with the Ryzen 5 (230-280 FPS) compared to my I5, which ran at 300-380 FPS. The 7600K was clocked at 4.8GHz, while the 2600 stayed at its default speed (I have a B450 MB but haven’t overclocked yet). Game settings are maxed at 1080p, and both systems run RAM at 3333MHz. Did I just downgrade? I just reinstalled Windows, Steam, and CS:GO, so it’s not a driver problem.
Your i5-7600K was pushed to 4.8 GHz. The Ryzen 3600 is running at its default speed of 3.4 GHz Base Block with a possible boost up to 3.9 GHz. Try overclocking the Ryzen 3600 and see how it performs. Have you installed the AMD chipset drivers? The AMD Ryzen Power Plan includes these drivers by default. A fresh Windows install means you won’t need to download additional drivers, but you still require the latest ones for your motherboard and other components. CS:GO tends to prioritize raw CPU speed over core count or IPC. It also doesn’t utilize extra cores or threads.
All drivers are set up, but the cooler I was using on the 7600k lacks an AM4 socket, so I don’t expect to upgrade to an R5. I’ll give it another shot later—I just thought more cores and threads would help the game, maybe I’m planning a new cooler.
CSGO runs better overall with Intel compared to AMD, and it doesn’t gain much from having multiple cores. The 2600 (or any Ryzen processor) offers no improvement for CSGO performance.
