Hello everyone, I really hope you can assist me with this issue.
I recently purchased a motherboard bundle along with RAM, cooling solutions, and an overclocked i5 7600 stock 3.8, which is now running at the BIOS level 4.2.
The setup includes a Gigabyte Z270 ultra gaming model with 16 GB CIRSAR DDR4 RAM.
The supplier stated that it had been stress tested overnight without any issues.
What I had left from my previous system was just the case, a GeForce GTX 970 graphics card and a PSU (Collermaster 850W).
[Link to forum post]
I received the bundle installed into the case, set up Windows 10, but encountered problems immediately.
There were total freezes in games and in Windows as well. The only solution so far was a hard reset using Ctrl + Alt + Del, which did nothing.
It appears the system is freezing when something large or complex loads, such as when playing CS:GO with intense actions like shooting or jumping between windows or tabs. Clicking to close running programs doesn’t help.
In CS:GO, FPS started stuttering and dropping rapidly—around 40 to 80 frames per second every second—then freezing completely.
I have tried the following:
- Reinstalled Windows 10 twice
- Switched to older, more stable drivers for the graphics card
- Increased CPU voltage to 1.32 and 1.42
- Ran a stress test; CPU temperatures stayed below 50–60°C and GPU below 65°C
- The supplier updated BIOS about two weeks ago
- Reset BIOS settings back to defaults (despite still showing 4.2 GHz CPU)
- Removed the CMOS battery for two hours
- Replaced all SATA cables with new ones
- Updated the Samsung SSD firmware and drivers (Windows was included)
- Ensured motherboard stands were placed in proper spaces (only six slots available, unlike the larger old motherboard)
- Disassembled the entire PC and reassembled it carefully, making sure all cables were securely connected.
My old system ran on a 1st generation i7 2.8 with 8GB RAM and an ASUS motherboard—about 4 to 5 years old, with a PSU that was also outdated.
Could anyone help me resolve these issues?

Wait, this was a Cooler Master? I didn't even click the link. They seem not very dependable, but it could work. If possible, you might want to upgrade the PSU when you can, especially with the new Kaby Lake (even though it should match Skylake).

Are you implying you're lacking standoffs for the board? I'm not trying to overstate the issue, but I just need to confirm that specific part.

The_Staplergun :
Are you saying you're missing standoffs for the board? I don't mean to blow by your whole post, I just want to clarify that particular point.
Ive got 6 installed but this board needs 9. Ive made sure standoffs are beside power supply to the board and cpu so I wouldnt damage the board by pushing on it... and all are in correct spaces. There is none touching the board where they not supposed to.

Honeslty, if you completed everything, I would revert the BIOS settings to their standard configuration, perform a fresh installation (removing the partition and allowing Windows to format), and attempt that again. Something is preventing you from proceeding. Is this a pre-owned package? Avoid pushing it too hard and observe the default behavior.

There might be something preventing this. Is the bundle used? Avoid overclocking and see what defaults work best. Did I do that? The bios reset message appeared later, but after clicking "load optimized defaults" it didn’t help. Would updating the BIOS clear all settings and remove overclocking?

I purchased it in a bundle but it isn't functioning. Please return it. Also, my PSU seems to be failing.

You purchased it as a bundle and it isn't functioning properly. Please return it. Another thing that comes to mind is that your PSU is failing. It had been stress tested, which suggests something might be wrong from my side. I've ordered a new 850w PSU right now and plan to test it tomorrow.

During the stress test without a graphics card, everything operates smoothly. Conclusion? It seems the graphics card isn't the issue, and the problem lies elsewhere—possibly insufficient power from the PSU...
