Hey there, I’ve got a few queries about not overclocking a B150 board. From what I understand, you can’t push it beyond its limits on that setup. But I’ve heard rumors you might be able to run an older i5-6400 CPU on a Z170 board and tweak it manually. I’m guessing you’d need to update the BIOS to match Sky Lake cards? Anyone have tips or advice for this kind of project? I’m assembling a gaming PC around an old i5-6400, and I’m still waiting to get the motherboard. Any guidance would be super helpful! Thanks a lot!

It's actually a CPU, not a card. All Z170 boards work with Skylake CPUs out of the box, except for the 7th generation Kabylake models. BCLK can sometimes run, but it's usually unreliable, so you probably won't see much speed improvement. You'd be lucky to hit a couple hundred MHz.

This function is present on older BIOS and is later locked out by Intel through BIOS update. Once new BIOS got flashed in, seems like there's no turning back. Make sure that when you buy the mobo, verify it has the non K OC BIOS from the seller.
