I5 4670k
MSI Z87-G43 Motherboard
Noctua NH-D15S CPU Cooler
Corsair AX760 PSU
Hi everyone. I tried to overclock my CPU yesterday and found only 4,2 Ghz with 1.25v on vCore. It seems my CPU might be underperforming or I need to tweak something else. Thanks for any advice!

The list suggests that havewell refresh might require an upgrade to 1.17 or 1.18 based on the CPU model, while havewell itself should work with 1.1.
Avoid using MSI Live Update; instead, update the BIOS directly through the BIOS interface, not via Windows.
A completely broken motherboard during a BIOS update is uncommon, especially if the system was previously stable. This remains a rare scenario.

First, refresh the BIOS using an M-flash within the BIOS settings.
How warm is your CPU during overclocking?
Did you adjust the settings through BIOS or a Windows application?
What changes were made?

I don't support helpstar's approach. Bios shouldn't be updated unless necessary. The Z87 boards are difficult to locate, and a flashing error can leave him without a motherboard. You're also unclear about the BIOS version he's using, and in most overclocking situations, BIOS updates have minimal impact unless they target CPU and cache settings. But I'm willing to assist if you provide more details. Please share where you found your overclocking information, which BIOS parameters you modified, and any specific steps you followed. This will help clarify the situation. For further guidance, you can refer to Toms' forum post here:

@THE Paladin usually supports your point, but MSI didn't include the 4670k in the compatibility list at all. It seems version 1.1 would be enough for this Haswell CPU on a similar z87 board from MSI.

Good point, Helpstar. Even though MSI isn't showing anything, I found the board on another platform I use, and it matches what the website says. The site is http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-MSI/Z87-G43.html, and it mentions that a 4670K requires version 11.

MSI Live Update indicates the latest BIOS update is installed, yet BIOS settings display V1.1, which makes me uncertain.
I followed the tutorial at http://www.overclockers.com/3step-guide-...l-haswell/.
After overclocking in BIOS, I adjusted the multiplier to 42 and Vcore to 1.250.
I turned on XMP only after finalizing the changes to vCore and multiplier.
Temperatures stayed around 60°C during AIDA64 Stability testing, with a maximum of 66°C recorded.

According to the provided link, version 1.1 is the second BIOS, but it requires at least version 1.17 to function properly with Haswell according to this list.
