I5 4570T vs 650 Vs 2300
If you haven’t got a motherboard yet, consider starting with an affordable AM4, LGA 1700 or LGA 1200 model and opt for a current platform. Unless you already own DDR3, it won’t offer much savings and will lag significantly behind a Ryzen 5 5500, Core i3 12100F, or Core i3 10100F.
This offers a full system that outperforms the i5 4570T. You can find the parts here: PCPartPicker. For deals under $200, consider the listed components. If you want extra capacity, you can upgrade RAM for an additional $10.
The three CPUs progressed from lacking AVX, to supporting AVX, then to AVX2. I don’t have information on how this affects gaming performance. For my research on compute power, AVX2 offers roughly half the instruction throughput compared to AVX, which still doesn’t compensate for having fewer cores when many threads are busy. I’d anticipate gaming would benefit less from AVX than that. Think about Ryzen as another case study—either showing strong AVX results or a lack thereof. Early generations (Zen, Zen+) claimed AVX2 support but delivered throughput similar to the Sandy Bridge era of AVX. They only improved their implementation with Zen 2.
