I have an i5-12400F, MSI Pro B660M-P DDR4 and a Kingston Fury Beast 4x8Gb 3200Mhz RAM. I experimented with XMP and manual overclocking, but the system won’t boot. Now I’m stuck at stock speeds. From what I learned online, this setup should work with 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM, and others have successfully run 4x8Gb at that speed. I’m unsure how to improve my RAM performance further. I previously ran 2x8Gb at 3200Mhz without issues, but wanted more power for Escape From Tarkov. Since my motherboard has four slots, I thought the same 2x8Gb package would be fine, but it didn’t work. Later I discovered memory controllers have limits, so I gave up on XMP. I found others with similar configurations running at 3600Mhz and even higher speeds, which helped me decide to stick with the standard setup. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Uncertain about the 12400f threshold, but have you experimented with 2x8gb configurations to check if XMP remains functional across them? It might be a slot limitation or just one of the newer drives.

Intel’s specifications indicate a processor capable of handling up to 128GB of RAM. It’s possible you purchased the same model but with a different RAM type. Be cautious and check for any BIOS updates for your motherboard.

You likely see those "Try it" choices in your bios too. I tried them myself. Do those two kits function independently? I’d test them, just like kitnoma n suggested—using 2400 cl16, 2666 cl16, 3000 cl16, 3200 cl17 or cl18. What other timing options exist? 20-20-40 or 18-18-38? Edited August 29, 2023 by leclod

Thanks for the ideas. I should first update my BIOS, then attempt the XMP profiles once more. Next, I’ll test the 2x8GB kits one by one to check for issues, and possibly explore manual overclocking if needed. If that doesn’t work, I might consider swapping them for a 2x16 kit. It’s going to be a fun ride!
