i3 6100 overclocking with memory limitations
Hello,
I'm planning to overclock a Core i3 6100 on an Asrock Z170 Pro4 motherboard. The Asrock mentioned the 'DDR4 OC' feature, but I'm curious if using memory from other brands, like G.Skill, might affect the CPU's overclocking capacity. Assuming the same speed memory is used across brands, would switching brands impact the potential for overclocking?
Best regards,
Andy.
Seek the fastest option that also has minimal CAS delay. Opting for high speed combined with low CAS is ideal for memory and OC performance.
CPU and RAM upgrading work separately. You cannot push a CPU beyond its stock limits if it isn't unlocked. If the values end with 'k', it indicates they can exceed their original overclocks. For instance, my chip is the i7-4790k, so I can adjust it as much as needed, provided cooling and a compatible motherboard are available.
