Hey there, I’m getting started on assembling my first desktop. I’m a bit unsure about choosing the right CPU. This machine will serve as my main workstation and needs to handle light gaming like Tales of Arise. For everyday tasks, I mostly use virtual environments (Citrix) and listen to Spotify in the background. Occasionally I stream Netflix and do some multitasking inside VMs. Two CPUs caught my attention: the I3-12100 and the I5-12400. The 12100 offers 4 cores and 8 threads, while the 12400 has 6 cores and 12 threads. I’m wondering which one suits me best. How many cores do I really need? Is four cores sufficient? Thanks ahead! Also, I’m planning to pair it with an AMD RX6600 and have the RX6600 XT B660M motherboard ready, so I might upgrade later to a 13th Gen Intel CPU.
