I was scammed at MediaWorld and I have a question.
Hi everyone! So recently I graduated high school and went with my parents to MediaWorld to buy a prebuilt PC. I had a personal computer I built myself, but it was too complicated to fix and only had 4GB of VRAM, which failed once more. I chose a 1000 euro machine with a Ryzen 5 5600 and a 3050 processor. The only downside was the RAM—just 8GB. When I asked if it was dual-channel, they confirmed it was.
Back home, I opened the case out of curiosity and found it was single-channel. That was a real disappointment, especially since I had a 16GB dual-channel stick from my old build. Now I’m wondering: if the RAM wasn’t permanently soldered and there’s no warranty seal on any part, would they know about the change? If I put the old 8GB stick back in before repairing the new one, would they still recognize it? I just want to save some money on future fixes.
Thanks for your help!
It's tough to locate affordable 4GB DDR4 modules priced reasonably. Those with single dimming options are likely worth upgrading for better value and usable storage. Probably they don't care about such details.
They won't be able to confirm that, but I think you were protected from being scammed. It's likely the salesperson didn't understand your request for dual channel. If you were upset about it being single channel, you might have returned the product yourself.
