I want to upgrade, 3060 12 gb or 4060 8gb
Hello everyone, I’m still figuring out where to start. My current PC specs are Gigabyte B450M Gaming, R3 3100, 16GB 3200MHz DDR4 8x2, GTX 1650. The system power is 10u 550w (about two months old), and I’m running at 1080p.
The upgrade plan is R5 5600, RTX 4060 (8GB or 3060 12GB). I don’t really focus on gaming anymore—just need it to run smoothly (around 60fps). I mainly use it for productivity tasks like editing, 3D work, and rendering (Adobe, DaVinci, Blender, Unreal Engine, SketchUp).
I’ve heard VRAM might be the issue, even though the RTX 4060 is top-tier. The price difference in Indonesia is around 3060 to 250$ for the 4060. I’m leaning toward Nvidia since I don’t play much, but I’m open to suggestions. I’m not sure about Intel GPUs either.
Thanks!
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
Please keep it simple! System Power 10u 550w
How recent is your PSU? Consider adding a well-built, higher-wattage one when upgrading.

I’m not too focused on gaming—just need it to run smoothly (60fps). I mainly use it for productivity tasks such as editing, 3D modeling in Blender or Unreal Engine, and rendering.
What applications do you rely on for these tasks? Do you have access to discrete GPUs from Intel or AMD?
Choose 3060 for better performance with PCIe 16x compared to 8x, since the 4060 is an 8x card and the motherboard only supports PCIe 3. For tasks needing heavy VRAM data, opting for 16x bandwidth would be more efficient. If the 4060 operated at PCIe 4 speeds, 8x would match PCIe 3 16x but wouldn't function at PCIe 4.
3060 12gb paired with a Ryzen 5700x offers great value for money. (Air cooling required at least 5 heat pipe coolers) For top CPU performance by price, the 5900x with a 240AIO is recommended. Water cooling is necessary as these chips generate significant heat.
VRAM is not a problem. There is literally no evidence of it ever being a problem it’s just something for people to main about. If you were playing at 4K there might be an issue but considering you’d be sub 20 regardless of VRAM it’s not really the limiting factor.
