I have an i7 6700K and a Gigabyte GA Z170X gaming motherboard. I'm not sure how to overclock it. Can you guide me through the process?

Use Aida64/real bench to check your OC stability. Keep an eye on CPU temperature via HWinfo. If it stays below 85 under load, you're fine. If you see a blue screen or crash during the test, shut down, disconnect the PSU, remove the CMOS battery on the MB for a minute, then reinsert and restart. Be patient.

Are you sure you need the performance? With my 6700K I set the multiplier to 44 just because I thought a K cpu should be overclocked. That level is quite mild, but it's straightforward and has worked well during stress tests and two years of gaming. I don't really need the extra power and wouldn't push it further.
