Linux is better than Windows, especially when it comes to updates and performance. MacOS feels expensive and hard to navigate, and I’m not sure how to set it up properly. Other operating systems don’t feel like they’re made for everyday use—they’re more suited for professionals.

Windows 10 Pro available at no cost for students via Microsoft Imagine, WSL used for testing programs during Linux compilation. Intending to switch from Windows 10 to msDOS on my laptop to cut power use and help concentrate on notes instead of playing Tetris during classes (maybe a joke, but I might have seriously considered it).

Windows 7 on all three of your machines—gaming rig, video editing setup, media laptop. DirectX12 isn’t convincing enough to switch to Windows 10. If I ever lose Win7, I might explore a Linux version… hoping it meets my requirements.

I chose OpenBSD for one of my servers due to its native httpd + slowcgi + acme-client setup, which works well for a specific web service I built there. I picked OmniOS on another server out of curiosity (and still explore it). On my other machines, FreeBSD served as a solid alternative to the unstable Debian when I began managing servers, and I adapted over time. My primary laptop runs Windows 10 because I’ve relied on it for over twenty years; I understand its quirks and know which tools fit each purpose. I prefer Windows-only apps for development, and I use Gentoo Linux on my travel/com conferencing laptop since hardware limitations make Windows unsuitable, and its drivers are exclusive to Windows and Linux. I dislike distros that assume user needs—those are always misleading. NetBSD and 9front were tried on an older version of Gentoo, just for fun. iOS was chosen because it feels less restrictive compared to proprietary smartphone platforms.

Laptop based on Slackware Linux. Virtual machines configured with CentOS, Fedora, and Ubuntu to explore or stay comfortable. My laptop serves as my main work device. I have a background in sysadmin (now DevOps) and rely on the GUI only when needed. This machine handles tasks from coding to photo editing. HTPC Windows 10 Pro is fine; it’s not essential, but I’m planning a Linux installation soon. Gaming PC runs Windows 10 Pro—unfortunately, gaming still demands it.
