I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 3505 with RAM and a new 2.5-inch SSD without issues. I replaced the included M.2 SSD with a Sabrent M.2 NVMe SSD. Using the Windows installation media tool, I made a USB boot disc to reinstall Windows 11 on the new SSD, but problems arose. The Dell BIOS doesn’t detect the USB boot, leaving me stuck on troubleshooting. I tried using the original SSD and planned to clone it with Sabrent’s software, but now Windows won’t boot even with the original SSD installed. I’m unsure how to proceed. Help would be really appreciated!

Open the BIOS settings and verify that A is enabled for USB booting from the USB port—this might be disabled in the preferences. Also, confirm the USB port appears in the list, ensuring it’s listed at the top. Lastly, test another port, since manufacturers often experiment with this feature.

Is the 2.5 hdd still present? Remove it and attempt again. Can you access the BIOS during startup and continue pressing F2? Are there options to review boot settings (priority) in the BIOS? Could you share screenshots from your BIOS configuration for assistance? This helps streamline support. Please ensure any image tags are hidden or marked private.

I'm not sure how to assist from within, but consider using Rufus to rebuild the USB stick or switch to a different one.

Updated: After swapping out the 2.5hdd and going back to the original SSD, everything seems normal again. The system doesn’t recognize the new SSD when it’s installed inside but functions properly when placed externally. It looks like the issue might be with compatibility rather than a major problem right now. Since I’m planning a new desktop build, I could use the Sabrent I have instead or upgrade the internal SSD if possible—would save me some space in my backpack. The Dell site isn’t very clear either.
