I tested three distinct PSUs but my old one remains functional.
I have purchased a new setup: RTX 5090, AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, B650, gaming components, and a Thermaltake PSU. I switched from a new PSU to an older one but the PC still wouldn’t start properly. After trying different PSUs, I replaced it with a SuperFlow Leadex v11 Pro. Now it only powers up briefly before shutting off completely. No debug lights or fan noise are present. I’ve checked cables, connections, and even removed the battery to rule out BIOS issues. Only recently connected RAM sticks. Please advise what should be done next.
I completely replaced them, but I tried initially after the first new PSU failed to connect the new cables to the old one to check if the issue was with the cable or the PSU itself. It seemed to work fine with the old PSU, so I assumed the problem was with the new ones. However, after three new PSUs, I don’t think they’re defective, which makes me wonder what’s actually wrong and why it doesn’t seem to be a hardware failure.
You probably damaged your device by touching the wrong wires. The cables come from various OEMs with different pin configurations, so they aren't interchangeable. Based on my research, Strix parts are made by Seasonic and the Thermaltake GF3 model uses CWT connectors.
It's a strange thought but why switch if it functions well with the older power supply? I'm not really into letting the old one disappear (the classic working PSU). It seems like a change just for the sake of it.
I checked up on this and it’s confusing. The older PSU seems less responsive to bad parts compared to the newer models. Possibly there’s an issue with the motherboard or other system components that newer PSUs are struggling with. Start by disconnecting everything, including the GPU, if you have built-in graphics. Test with just the CPU and memory card only. If nothing works, try adding parts one by one until you find the problem. If you’re lucky, it might fix itself once you set everything up again. Apologies if this left you confused!
