I stopped using my Sonos setup about ten seconds ago.
I own a Sonos installation throughout my home, featuring two beams, four play ones, four symfonisk units and one play 1. The play one still has some old-school limitations... that's okay. My main issue is that connecting to my devices feels unreliable at best, or worse—completely nonexistent. Last year I relied solely on my beams, mostly skipping the surround sound since they often dropped out, and now I'm considering discarding the whole setup. Today I decided to get it up and running again, spending a lot of time researching everything. I’m using a UDM Pro with a 150-watt POE switch and an XG16, and all my APs are powered through that unit. I’ve turned off 2.4 GHz on every AP except the Unifi NANO HD, which uses channel 6 for optimal SONOS compatibility. All Sonos devices are connected to the 2.4 GHz network and appear online, but the app only shows partial functionality. Some devices have been reconnecting throughout the day yet still fail. They all report strong signals, I’ve tried multicast, beamforming, and power limiting on the nano, but nothing works. It seems like it might be time to let the system go.
You could test everything on a table and check what works best. Skip the old play 1 and try the app on another device. If things go wrong, you might still earn cash for a great sound system. I've assisted users switch from Sonos to traditional wired audio setups, which offers solid performance despite extra effort—there are plenty of choices available.
