I require an application to alert you about a main power outage.
I have a laptop using a program called TEMPer that tracks temperature inside a heated enclosure for a large tortoise. It sends email alerts if the temperature falls below a threshold. I'm looking for open source power monitoring software similar to a UPS power alarm to detect when the mains supply fails to the laptop. Essentially, I want to set up an alarm that works like a power protection system. Any ideas would be helpful.
There is a possible solution available at the provided link. You might want to test it out.
The laptop also operates a few webcams and includes two temperature sensors, allowing me to verify everything is functioning properly while I'm away. We once lost one tortoise a few years ago when a relative who was supposed to look after them left the door open, and he ended up freezing to death.
You really want to be alerted when the laptop changes from using wall power to battery power. Just noticing if the wall power fails, the laptop keeps running but the temperature drops.
That's pretty much what I need. Notification that power is down and the laptop is running on battery. I could do without buying a UPS just for this, hence the question about finding UPS style software. Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
