Many people think a server or NAS is useful mainly for storage needs. You might find a used 1650 or similar device suitable for a mining rig, though I’m not sure it’s a good investment.

Sure, combining HDDs for NAS and Plex functionality is possible but depends on your setup and requirements.

Great suggestion though—it’s not the most lucrative option, but storage is essential. It’s not ideal to keep large amounts of data across multiple drives in such a compact setup, though it works for now.

I have limited experience with mining and wasn't sure if extra storage was necessary, but I was just presenting the concept.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! I’ll definitely consider getting a NAS for storage if I decide to buy one.

When running multiple transcode sessions simultaneously isn’t necessary, playback should continue until your network connection is full. Chromecast and Xbox clients often cause issues requiring constant conversion. Web browsers don’t handle HEVC well, and smart TVs vary but usually work. Ensure your media is properly encoded—playing 4K x265 10bit HDR on an Xbox will likely drop to 4mbps 720p. Those Synology devices with no serviceable parts and ARM or Celeron CPUs probably won’t transcode 720p effectively. It’s best to avoid expecting everything to run at once, especially when you need more capacity. A 6700k processor should handle lower-power servers smoothly at standard speeds.

Your 6700k is your primary setup, no need for me to take it. That's a cool project—running NAS and Plex together on Linux sounds exciting! Thanks!
