I recently had someone from Windows support manage my computer!
I wasn’t able to turn Windows back on for my new build with an SSD because the retail boxed key wasn’t connected to my Microsoft account. I had to let a Microsoft support representative handle it, who reactivated the key and added it to my account. I was worried about losing everything if they accessed it. If you own a retail boxed Windows key, make sure it’s linked to your Microsoft account so you don’t have to repeat this on a new PC. I could end up with two active copies of the same key, but I’ll wipe the cloned SSD to remove any traces. Using the same key on two different installations would cause serious problems. Also, I need to move my second key from a 512 GB drive to a 128 GB drive—this one was used with my Pentium build, though both are now spare drives that will go into my backup PC.
The most surprising part of this story for me is that you bought Windows.
Windows 7 Professional was just £60 before preorder, and the Windows 8 upgrade cost only £30. However, it actually provided me with a complete second Pro edition key. Eventually, both versions turned into Windows 10 Pro.
