I upgraded from a core i7 930 to the x5690 and now Windows treats it as a 4-core processor. There’s no simple fix without reinstalling the OS, but you can try updating BIOS/CMOS or checking compatibility settings.

It's a recognized problem with the board and older BIOS versions, so essentially update the BIOS.

Open msconfig, navigate to the Boot section, click Advanced options... Ensure the Number of processors field is unchecked. Restart your system afterward. This adjustment may stop Windows from detecting all six of your CPU cores if you had a 4-core processor before.

The official Intel compatibility lists don't list the X5690 for that motherboard, though it appears in the six-core Westmere processors section. https://www.intel.ca/content/www/ca/en/s...oards.html He can boot up, so he should be fine. Most issues come from the Windows msconfig processor count setting when changing from a 4-core to a 6-core CPU. You usually don't need to reinstall Windows. Edit – This example shows the X5690 working on the Intel DX58SO board, with a solid overclock across all six cores. 12 threads at full speed. http://valid.x86.fr/93m1zq
