I observed a fascinating behavior in my graphics card drivers.
A few months ago, in late November or early December, I received my gaming PC. It was prebuilt since I didn’t have room for a custom setup. At first, all the games I played ran smoothly—Overwatch, GTA V, Hitman, etc. Eventually, I thought about updating my graphics card drivers to boost performance. Unfortunately, that backfired; just last night I tried playing Overwatch on Epic and experienced severe performance drops, dropping into single digits. This was a big issue for an 800-dollar system. It only happened after updating the drivers. I searched online and found older versions of the drivers from NVIDA. Surprisingly, using them improved my frame rate dramatically—from unstable dips to a steady 75 fps. I’m wondering if this means either my card is faulty or that NVIDA’s drivers are problematic. Could it be that older drivers actually work better than newer ones? Also, I noticed other games like Tomb Raider 2013 suffered similar issues with benchmark scores, especially in multiplayer. Once I switched back to the latest drivers, my Overwatch performance stabilized. Drivers seem to be a common fix, but I appreciate any advice from anyone who’s dealt with this situation.
