Hello, I'm facing an issue with the power supply for my motherboard purchase. It requires an 8-pin connector, but the PSU I have only has 4 or 6 pins. I've already recorded a video explaining the problem, but before turning it on, I'd like to get your advice. The motherboard model is MSI P55-GD85—can it work with this setup? Refuse this advice. The way you connect the 6-pin depends on your setup—either making a short or connecting a signal wire to ground, both are problematic. Check the PSU cables to see what options are available for powering the motherboard. For the motherboard, you'll need a 4-pin connection (2x2), which can fit into the board's 8-pin EPS port and may require a larger 24-pin adapter.

Avoid connecting the 6-pin cable to the 4-pin connector. Follow the steps from the end of the video: insert the 4-pin cable into the 8-pin connector and the 24-pin cable from your power supply into the 24-pin slot on your motherboard. The 4-pin is usually sufficient for basic system operation during testing.

The 6-pin connector is meant for your GPU, avoid connecting it to the CPU power port. The 4-pin slot should sit on one side of the 8-pin adapter, though your motherboard may not support it alone. It’s best to use a higher-quality power supply.
