I need assistance with something bad.
hello everyone, i’m really struggling with this situation. I just bought a 12900ks and a z690 apex on eBay. The seller said it was brand new, but when i tried to power it up, i got postcode 00 on the motherboard. I cleaned the cmostook out battery, re-seated the cpu twice, but still get postcode 00 right away once power is on. Everything else works fine—rgb fans spin, bios were flashed but still show 00. It feels like either the cpu or the board is dead. I’m not wealthy and can’t test anything because i upgraded from an amd 5600x. I disabled the income so it’s not too good financially, and it took me two years to save up for this build. I’m feeling really frustrated and defeated.
Did you review the motherboard guide to understand the error message? You may require a BIOS upgrade for the 12900ks to function properly.
Actually, 00 indicates nothing, but it's labeled as "reserved." I've updated my bios, yet I keep getting a 00.
The three primary reasons for 00 errors are a non-functional CPU, a failing motherboard, or an unconnected power connector. Disconnecting the CPU power supply seems straightforward to verify—especially on modular systems. Based on my recollection, if the board isn’t receiving power at all, it’s unlikely, though not impossible. Issues with the board itself or improper cable connections are more probable. 00 indicates a board that hasn’t started up, which is a standard message across any platform when the first power sequence fails. If the connection is resolved, reach out to the seller and request a refund, as you likely received it from eBay. Unless you obtained it at a discounted rate, switching to a more reliable model like the 13700K or Z690 Force would be a smarter choice for performance and reliability.
Code 00 generally indicates no CPU is present. I would first inspect the socket for any bent or missing pins. Also, examine the CPU pads. Verify the motherboard and CPU power connections, including the PSU. Disconnect all other peripherals from the motherboard, even the keyboard and mouse. Test without the graphics card installed. Apart from that, there aren't many options left except trying a different CPU or motherboard.
thanks guys for the info...i checked the 12v power there def on and theres no pins bent they look great...the board when i got it even looked brand new the seller said lightly used and i believe that but if it was dead i suppose he wouldnt use it much lol....i didnt know the 13700k was better than the 12900ks if so i may go that route and also buy a different board but it will take me several months to a year or 2 to save that kind of money...prolly be outdated by then lol i also did not know the apex was such a bad board maybe thats why i got a great deal on it. Also i have the gpu out just to make sure so isnt that i even removed one of the ram sticks then swapped them and still 00 so maybe the board is bad instead? the very first time i turned it on it made clicking noises and just kept turning on and off rapidly then i checked a few wired turned it on again and 00
A board that’s stopped working seems more common than a faulty CPU, though I recently purchased a defective i9 that was new, making me unsure about secondhand LGA CPUs being completely trustworthy.
It seemed odd when I looked at the CPU pads—it looked pretty clear, like you could see what was underneath. If I had bought a 13700K, it might have worked on the Apex board; otherwise, I’d probably go for a Z790 instead.
The board you're using is powered by DDR5 memory, as confirmed by the specifications. The upgrade from 5600x refers to the CPU, not the RAM.
Sure, I got it—just remember to mention the DDR5 6400 when you buy it.
