As I get older, I've had some trouble with my balance, my wife mentions. I can connect a desktop and a new laptop using a reliable link, both of which are running Windows 11.

I need to explain my meaning more clearly.
I’m assuming the usual situation where you’re using a router to get online.
Both devices connect to the router, and they can communicate with each other.
If you want to use Microsoft File Sharing, you should be able to do that.

They are linked through the identical router. The desktop is wired straight to the router using a Cat 6 cable. The laptop connects without a wire to the router. THEY CANNOT DETECT ONE ANOTHER. I access the network settings, but neither device recognizes the other.

Connect the devices using an ethernet cable to the router.
The router might already have a wireless client isolation configuration. After connecting, wired and wireless devices will not be able to communicate.
Ensure both your devices are set to enable network discovery so they can access the network.
