I'd choose it, as it's the final Windows version from Microsoft with a taskbar I liked.
It's likely many of them will work with wine. Also, you can always use dual booting with Windows 7, especially if you only need a few programs and don't require two CPUs.
These items I checked are not automated; they depend on .NET, which doesn’t support Wine. They’re also the applications I need to move to multiple CPUs, and they’re quite resource-intensive.
It's also possible to use Windows 8.1 since it's noted to work with two CPUs.
Vista was WAY better looking than Win7 is, and with the SP2 update they really did have all the problems sorted out. There's no valid reason to pick Win7 over Vista, except perhaps compatibility with certain new hardware that doesn't support it. Those who bring up the fact that Vista needs more resources should probably just buy a decent PC, because you only notice a difference in performance if you're using a potato.
