I have a home media server and I'm looking for more connections. I discovered a PCIe NIC that seems promising, but it lacks clear instructions or tools. After installing it on my Dell desktop with Windows Server 2012 and Plex, it didn't show up. My goal is to improve the setup, especially since my NAS needs faster access. Is this feasible or just unnecessary?

You're having trouble locating the drivers, even after installing one you believed was correct. Restarting the server didn't resolve the issue, and it isn't appearing in the Device Manager.

check the card's status by installing Linux just to verify it's working. Alternatively, use the provided driver link for testing.

It should appear in the device manager even without known drivers, as unknown devices are detected automatically. Drivers can be located on Dell or Broadcom websites. Why would you want a PCIe NIC?

I considered linking the Plex server directly to the NAS for quicker performance. However, I realized a USB 3.0 PCIe card might be better, allowing faster connections through USB. My ingest station runs on a separate network computer with a Blu-ray drive, connected via gigabit LAN. I chose a NAS for backup since the server has limited physical drives, but its powerful CPU handles transcoding. Streaming from the NAS shared drive works smoothly, while streaming directly from the server HDD causes quality issues.
