I just installed Windows 10 on my main machine as instructed, but Microsoft warned against it. I used a license checker to verify activation, and it confirmed I was licensed until April 15th, 2014 at 6:59 PM. Could Windows 10 have been released then? Only Microsoft (and possibly me) know.

That's correct, the key you received at installation will lose validity after that time, so you'll have to switch to a more recent version.

This means nothing, it's just present to prevent using the evaluation copy as a genuine operating system without paying.

It might happen once Windows 10 becomes available; we understand it will likely arrive at that moment.

The Vista and seven customer preview paths remained accessible for roughly seven months to a year, after which they were updated. Releasing them in April seems quite early.

It seems Windows 9 is expected to launch in March. Note: Windows 10 is still around, sorry about that.

-> Upgrade to the full version and perform a clean install -> Keep the older version. Naturally, many will voice their concerns, as they have before. I understand why, but Microsoft is a company people often criticize. They usually expect free access during testing, which is why they sometimes offer deeper discounts or early access in exchange for feedback to improve the product. Windows 7 gained much from this process. (Regrettably, they didn't apply similar benefits to Windows 8)
