Visit YouTube and search for instructions on resetting Windows 10 from the log screen. A restore might not function properly and could be time-consuming.

In my view, the optimal choice is a complete reset and fresh setup. A clean install will erase everything except Windows, allowing you to reinstall drivers after updates. Be sure to format the drive beforehand—there might be manufacturer-related issues blocking the update. Search YouTube for instructions on performing a clean installation or generating a Windows installation key.

This situation has occurred with me before, both with the AU and CU. It shows why it’s smart to keep Windows Update enabled for the version you just installed cleanly, but turn it off once Microsoft releases a significant new release. I won’t upgrade to the FCU or any other major update until I decide again—perhaps after a year or two, whenever I set up a fresh system. Microsoft let go of most of its testing staff when Nadella took over, and now they seem more focused on quick fixes than solid software. Their priorities don’t align with quality; instead, they’re pushing methods that help them collect personal data for profit. Today, Microsoft is more like a security firm than a genuine software developer. The reality is that using updates can actually increase your risk of losing access to your system and files, compared to the dangers of viruses or malware online. It feels similar to every major Windows 10 update.
