I mainly run games at 4K resolution using DLSS, and a strong CPU definitely helps for extra speed.

In technical terms, it is correct, but unless you upgrade to something like a 4080 or 4090, you probably won't notice a significant boost compared to what you already have, especially when using 4K resolution.

Monitor specs are 4K and I generally run at 1440P or Ultra Performance with DLSS enabled.

Upgrading your GPU seems like a better path, though it might be costly. My 8086k pairs well with a 2080ti at 1440p and my 9900k works fine with a 3080ti at 4k. The price tag for a GPU upgrade is also significant, so it really depends on your budget.

I believe upgrading my CPU is the next move no matter what I do. It’s likely I’ll have to do it eventually. My neighbor has an even older PC, so I’d like to sell the old parts to him and we can play Remnant 2 together more effectively.

DLSS utilizes the GPU's Tensor cores, making it less dependent on the CPU. It renders the game at different lower resolutions and uses the Tensor cores to upscale it to your screen size. As discussed before, I'm not entirely certain about the specific resolutions but if your display is set to 4K (2160p), I'd guess DLSS would render at 720p, then balance to 1080p, and finally aim for 1440p. I assume that at 1080p you could see a noticeable boost by improving your CPU, though I'm not sure how the rendering process differs with DLSS versus without it. A jump from 8700k to around 13600k at native 1080p should definitely make a difference.

I’d set up MSI Afterburner, show all CPU cores while gaming, and check what’s being maxed. It might just mean you’re hitting the 3060’s limits because DDR5 isn’t completely free in performance.
