I'm assisting with repairing a machine my friend purchased some time ago. It required a power cycle where fans would spin for about 30 seconds before resetting. There was no post screen initially. After dismantling, I focused on the CPU, motherboard, and power supply. Even after testing the CPU combo with a Gigabyte B450M DS3H WIFI (Rev 1.3), the system still wouldn't boot properly. I'm experiencing fans spinning but not producing any video output, since the 3600 lacks built-in graphics. I'm unsure if a power supply issue is the cause. I didn't have a spare PSU available, but I chose to use the stock cooler and its fan instead. It seems like a PSU problem might be relevant here. I'm tired and just need guidance on the next steps. I question if it's possible since I think the computer was functioning at some point. Basic troubleshooting steps could help: reset CMOS, experiment with different RAM setups (one stick per slot), swap the CPU/Motherboard if feasible, and consider removing everything except the front I/O and power button before posting.
The system has been running since 2016. I restored the CMOS, rearranged the RAM, and replaced the CPU/Motherboard as per the list I provided (noting the switch from i5 6600k to Ryzen 5 3600). That update stopped the power cycling, but I’m still having trouble getting video to display. I plan to use a case speaker (expected delivery in a few days) and test it to check the beep codes.
Added a case mic. No alarm sounds at all. Not sure if this is positive or negative...
Changed the power supply unit but nothing helped. What am I missing?
The problem was with the RAM. I didn’t test all possible setups and two of the four sticks were damaged. If either of those are connected, the system won’t start and won’t display any beep codes. I’ll check the motherboard and CPU to make sure they’re also faulty.
