The 13th Gen suggests the 14th Gen could see significant performance improvements, though it may come at a higher cost. I was eager to upgrade my PC this year without overspending. My main goal was to have it sooner rather than later, but if the 14th Gen lives up to its promise, it would make sense to wait. By the way, why does Intel frequently change their chipset? It forces users to replace their motherboards more often than they prefer.

When it comes to whether it's worth investing, nobody really knows—it’ll take about a year to figure out. The typical advice is to purchase when you need it; if you're buying a PC, get it now, as waiting until just before an announcement can be pointless.

It becomes easier as more of the chipset is now integrated into the CPU, but it still allows significant adjustments in how the chip communicates with the motherboard, boosting efficiency.

I agree, but still wish that AM4 was the norm. There is a real, sensible upgrade path from 1st and 3rd gen Ryzen, which is awesome.

Since AMD has always been the challenger, they’re more driven to squeeze maximum performance from each socket, which raises the chances of choosing their chips over Intel’s. Many think Intel constantly changes sockets just to add more power, but AMD focused on efficiency and now matches Intel in gaming with half the energy use—suggesting strong potential for AM5 in the future.

What really interests me is the current price around 0.45€ per kWh. I’m impressed by AMD’s performance in this area, which makes me hesitant to choose Intel at the moment.

Additionally, you don't need to manage a large variety of SKUs if you update sockets often or consider BIOS ROM space. With AMD, I repeatedly encounter the limited BIOS ROM options that originally suggested they wouldn’t back Ryzen 5000 on earlier chipsets. Clearly, the criticism prompted them to release Beta BIOS versions to extend support for both 400 and 300 series, but only by removing older CPU support at once since the ROMs couldn't accommodate every AM4 model. I recall a statement from Intel indicating they rotate sockets every two generations to prevent this issue. I’m doubtful AMD will follow suit as they aim to support AM5 through at least 2025—just two years away. It seems Ryzen 8000 and 9000 are set for AM5, but after two more generations, I wouldn’t be surprised if AMD shifts to a new socket or stops supporting Ryzen 7000 on future boards if the compatibility window closes. Changing sockets every two generations keeps things manageable; otherwise, removing support for older CPUs at once would be risky. The adaptability of AM4 was impressive, but swapping any AM4 chip into a new board without a BIOS update won’t work. I share your opinion on the whole article, yet I still think it's cool to have ongoing backing. It seems they might want to restrict support only to premium mainboards (like X670(E)) so new chips stay compatible, which would encourage people to invest in better boards. Maybe they could also run B650Plus together, allowing the board to handle newer chips—though that’s something the maker handles. BIOS modders will likely adapt, as seen with 1151 and 1151V2, but I wouldn’t want to interfere with those kinds of changes even if I’m an enthusiast.
