My machine faces two major problems I’d like to resolve. Looking up online hasn’t provided any clear guidance for either. Please let me know if you need more details I haven’t shared.
Summary: The system freezes when logging in after rebooting, and after entering it, the second monitor appears as 640 x 480 landscape even though it’s set to 2k portrait. To resolve this, I unplug and plug the monitor back in.
Login Freeze: If the computer restarts unexpectedly and I don’t log in for a while, I notice it freezes on the login screen. Because the screen displays a large clock, I can pinpoint exactly when it stops responding. This usually happens before Windows fully loads. I’m using an insider version, which might be involved, but hardware could also be the cause. Windows Hello is enabled with a compatible camera, though it only functions half the time.
Monitor Configuration Errors: My setup includes two displays—one 2K portrait on the left and another 4K landscape on the right. On startup, the system misreads the left monitor and treats it as the smallest in landscape mode. Changing the power button doesn’t help, nor does reconnecting or disconnecting the display cable. I must unplug and replug the power cord to get Windows to recognize it properly. This issue has persisted for over a year despite having these monitors for more than a year.
Fresh Login Behavior: When I first log in to Windows, the system interprets my monitors incorrectly. The advanced display settings for monitor 2 are displayed as follows:
System Specs: Device name gaming_rig
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X (12-core, 3.70 GHz)
RAM: 64 GB
Device ID: 423A9208-2CC3-4E9A-889E-EA82EC25E5F0
Product ID: 00330-53421-99644-AAOEM
OS: 64-bit, x64 architecture
On startup, the monitor is set to incorrect size and resolution. Adjusting power settings or cables doesn’t resolve the problem.
Additional Notes: The PC is placed in another room with long cables linking the displays, and most USB devices on my desk use a USB-C hub.
