I have to enjoy Valve titles...
Consider giving the mod Black Mesa a shot. It's essentially a remake of Half-Life using the Source engine. Although it's missing the Xen/Zen segment at the end, the work so far is impressive.
Alpha maps perform well and remain stable. The main challenge with Black Mesa lies in its reliance on foot mechanics. Luckily, being a Source title lets you fine-tune it yourself. I'm capturing this for my channel now, and after some adjustments, the MP5 feels solid again. Soldiers are no longer overpowered, ammo limits match HL1, and there are some interesting features to explore.
Also take a look at Underhell if you have some time. Just the first chapter is available now, and they're working on another one too. Finishing that game will take a few days because it's quite lengthy, but it's really a great title.
