I have a weird issue with ram
I don’t understand what’s going on. It’s affecting the old PC my son is using. After cleaning it, when he reassembled it, it wouldn’t post. Error lights flash alternately between the CPU and RAM. I managed to spot the issue but feel confident fixing it. The processor is an i5 8400, so for troubleshooting I removed the GPU. It seems the problem lies with the RAM—when everything is back together with the GPU, only one RAM sticks work, no matter which slot or type. But it doesn’t post when two RAMs are inserted. However, if there’s no dedicated GPU and I’m just using the integrated GPU of the 8400, dual RAM works. I think the motherboard might be the culprit, but I’m not sure where to begin. What do you think?
Have you attempted to erase the CMOS? Would you like to restore the BIOS to its original configuration?
This was the initial step I took after the computer stopped responding. It worked again once the GPU was disabled. I repeated this process each time I adjusted the RAM settings.
