I believe turbo eliminates the whole fan curve completely and simply raises fans to full speed. Performance mode employs a fan curve, but for custom manual settings I just increased the last two to 100% at an incline. You can adjust the curve yourself. It's quite strange they require you to do this to protect your system in case it crashes while experimenting. Even though it comes out of the box. 😛
edit: also, when tuning the fan curves you need to reach 100% before 100°C, so you have to reverse the scaling. It looks like the only way to get fans at 100% correctly is around 90°C. I made adjustments on each scale from and to the red lines I drew. I think I might be able to set it at 80°C and see if it runs under the temperature limits, but it seems fine at mid-90°C. Here’s my comfort zone.
It turns out that increasing everything and running the GPU fan at full speed will significantly lower the CPU temperature by nearly 13 degrees. I can push the CPU to its maximum overclock at around 82 degrees just by setting the GPU fans to 100%, even though it isn't reaching its peak temperatures. The GPU is operating at 50 degrees when fully boosted and overclocked, while the CPU stays at 82 degrees. There are no bottlenecks involved.
The lesson here is that if fan noise isn’t a concern, using both fans at full capacity works well.
