The disk has a mark now. What actions should you take? Are you in trouble?

Have you accessed your hard drive? If yes, unfortunately you're in trouble. (You might attempt to rebuild it and recover the files quickly, but the drive is completely unusable in the long run.)

A tiny dust particle might ruin a hard drive. It’s already disappeared. What made you take it apart?

Absolutely, that won't hold up if it still functions. I understand if it broke down and you just needed a peek, but if you plan to use it, avoid opening it.

When you opened the drive and touched the platters, things went wrong. If the drive was already failing and you're trying to fix it, wipe away the smudge using isopropyl alcohol on a clean, lint-free cloth such as a prep pad, coffee filter, or lint-free material. Reassemble it carefully and hope for the best. If it improves, move its contents to another drive right away and avoid using it again since time is running out. If this was a helium drive, opening it instantly caused failure. Press F—game over, man, game over! If the smudge is on the exterior and you didn't remove the lid with a screwdriver, don't worry.

Interest sparked the cat, but the information vanished. Mostly, it was stolen games and films.
