It's true, I'm having trouble getting out of Silver 1. I'm using my weapon and consistently hitting the wall. Saving money by skipping armor each round helps me.

I keep my crouch key ready, and I wait until my crosshairs settle before firing. The weapon performs well when you don't fire too often.

Usually I land hits on opponents twice, but only manage about 80 damage with square body attacks. Then in the next match I plan to change that... Spoiler alert!
