What messaging platform do you prefer? Do you rely on Google Hangouts with SMS and Gmail features, or would you rather use Facebook Messenger to include everyone—even your mom? Perhaps LINE, Skype, Viber, or Slack are your choices. I’m using Facebook Messenger myself since it offers free unlimited chat data through my carrier, and all my friends and family are on board. It works well, but I’d love more SMS integration or other options!

WhatsApp and Hangouts are the only platforms used. Avoid Facebook, stick to Hangouts for messaging. Texts happen via Hangouts. Steam chats are kept offline.

No one around me uses Hangouts, that’s disappointing. It’s confusing why WhatsApp works—you charge for messages, but you pay with data.

Messenger offers some carrier partnerships for free data, which is helpful, but I still rely on SMS. Finding someone's contact can be tricky at times.
