I overclocked my CPU today without going too high because I didn’t want to risk anything, but I’m not sure if I did it correctly. My machine has an i7-4820k with a base of 3.7 GHz (now upgraded to 4.0) and the motherboard is p9x79. I set it to 4 in the BIOS and used UI Tweaker without changing XMP, manual, or anything else. All I adjusted was the core max clock to 40, then synced all cores, and restarted the PC. It felt quite simple. After checking, I realized my base clock when idle is 3.7 MHz, but during stress tests it jumps to 4.0 MHz. Does that mean I did it right? The temperatures are in the 50s during stress, so it should be okay. Still, it feels too easy. I’m wondering if I can push it a bit higher, maybe around 4.2 GHz, since the temps are fine.

After completing any kind of overlclock, it's important to perform a benchmark test for an hour or two to check stability. Prime95 is one such product, but you can search online for more options. I discovered this overclocking guide to be quite helpful.
