Right now I have an R9 290 so I don't need to tradeoff.. But when you do smooth gameplay is a must. You don't always need 60fps but it must be smooth. Helps increase immersion. We have passed the point of diminishing returns in graphics so the frame rate benefit of going from ultra to high is much greater than the visual benefit of going from high to ultra. Often times you can barely notice... That's why you shouldn't be OCD about maxing settings.

4K resolution, 35 frames per second or higher, primarily ultra performance, no audio codec, supports SLI 980 configuration.

Aren't you wondering if the solution is clear? Prioritize speed above visual appeal, unless capturing a snapshot is necessary.

I handle most titles at ultra or high settings, yet I prioritize maintaining a steady 60 FPS regardless of the situation, which usually results in consistently smooth performance.
