Every 10 to 15 years is typical, though actual intervals can vary.

Only when Windows fails. Creating the whole setup takes a minimum of two days due to my detailed requirements, so I don’t want to waste time without a clear purpose.

Still running off the same Windows 8.1 install since September 2013. Survived the upgrade to 10 and still running great. The key is regular maintenance. Run disk clean up every now and then, delete junk you don't need anymore and keep viruses/malware away with regular scans and smart browsing. I don't see why anyone should have to do a fresh install every year or two. Especially if you're on an SSD.

Your OS folders are safely stored on the WD Blue, while any save or configuration files are kept on the D: drive, making the C: drive less critical.

On Windows I usually perform a clean setup every six months or so. My current Windows 7 version was installed in September 2016. On Linux, whenever I want to try the newest Mint release, I jump straight from version 13 to 17.1, then to 17.3, and now I'm at 18.1.
