Visit the charms bar, enter a search, then input view local services. Pause and turn off BITS. Additionally, adjust window update checks to manual mode.

Change updates to manual settings. (You've already handled everything else, bits and superfetch didn't help.)

It's straightforward, we prefer stability.

Turn off automatic updates temporarily. For future manual updates, press Win + Pause|Break, move to the lower-left corner, and select "Windows Update" then "Check for updates".

I received Windows 8.0 when the release came; I didn’t fully grasp its significance at first, even though I enjoy change and exploring new options. I tend to read user manuals thoroughly. As soon as I learned about the Technical Preview for Windows 10, I installed it and have stayed on it instead of reverting back to Windows 8.1 since then—partly to test a few programs that weren’t functioning well on Windows 10 yet.

Certainly, if you disliked any updates you'd still have Windows 95 or ENIAC.

I run version 8.1 but prefer the older version 8. Start feels more familiar, though I can't resist the new interface.

I experienced the current UI briefly but found it manageable. After some time, I installed startisback and favored it. Overall, I'm satisfied. Improved multithreading and smoother gameplay were notable. The main issue was encountering certain adb drivers during Android ROM flashing.
