I've tried resetting from inside Windows, but then it would say there's an error and boot me back into the Windows that's on there. I tried making a USB recovery drive, had to get the Surface Go folder and added it to the USB, stuck it in and booted into the USB, threw on my Bit Locker security number when asked, but then it failed again. But this time the tablet won't boot as it says there's no bootable drive, unless I stick in the recovery USB, but as I said before, it just won't finish installing Windows. I got a Framework 12 to replace the tablet and my wife keeps nagging me that she wants this Surface Go 2 tablet, but now it has no Windows to boot into. This is frustrating. Any suggestions?
Use the Microsoft Surface ISO for setup. Standard Windows media is not allowed.
Stunning. That’s why I advised users “No more surface devices” when asked—Microsoft’s own first-party gadgets require special Snowflake work to reinstall the OS. It’s unbelievable. Some can’t even retrieve their missing drivers via the Windows update. Total disappointment.
You’ve already entered the serial number on the site and downloaded the files as instructed. The tablet works well up to around 30% and then stops. It seems like the recovery image needs to be copied into a Windows installer USB, but there’s a mismatch—Windows version 25H2 from Media Creation tool versus the latest recovery image 23H2. You might need to align those versions.
So yes, using the Media Creation tool and transferring over the Surface Go files to the USB before using it fixed the problem and it worked fine! Thanks a bunch @whispous !
