Have you seen anyone trying to take off a CPU cooler from a prebuilt PC without any obvious method? I bought an Asus build from Best Buy in 2017. After assembling a PC last summer, I stored it away. Recently, I used it as a portable HTPC for my room but faced issues with the boot SSD. After replacing it, the PC functioned properly. Then I started folding it and considered using the Asus as a second folding unit. It worked briefly, until I encountered problems with the CPU fan. It would briefly spin, then stop, emit a dying moose sound, and restart. The temperature spiked above 100°C before I powered it down. It seems a new CPU fan or cooler might be needed. Initially, I thought the plastic covers on the posts were just protective material—possibly screws that are glued. I wondered if the installation was reversed, with screws under the motherboard. But that didn’t match what I saw. Before giving up, anyone have suggestions on how to remove the cooler?

Turn the four posts at the top of the cooler using the arrow direction, and it should detach easily.

It seems the information was taken from a link about Intel processors being discontinued. This pattern likely repeats with updates on Intel stock coolers: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/...ssors.html

Remove the four plastic screws from outside the fan; don't worry about the bottom part. For replacement, consider purchasing a larger Intel stock fan with a copper base or replace the thermal paste with a new one.

The one referenced in this discussion can reverse those plastic fasteners. Another method is to press them at the base (the highlighted ones).

Thanks a lot. It really helped everything. Now I just need a fast delivery for a new cooler. I’m using a Cooler Master Hyper 212 to run my i9-9900K in my PC. I’m considering switching to an AIO and moving the Hyper 212 to an Asus cooler, but that was before the pandemic cut my investment earnings and cut my savings by 40%. I’m planning to buy another air cooler from Jeff Bezos—I bet he’ll have the funds. Still, appreciate your assistance.
