Vista and Windows 8/8.1 are available now. They're not as problematic as some believe. Most users who tried them with limited RAM didn't have issues.

Ubuntu is competing closely with Windows 7. As others have mentioned, I generally dislike any operating system, but Ubuntu seems to be the most manageable.
