I spent £100 or $160 since I made a mistake by purchasing it from Microsoft's store. I used a USB instead of buying a cheap DVD and only entered the product key.

If you're concerned about spending $90, consider purchasing a used PC with W7 and upgrading it.

Never bought a Windows license (except when it's part of a laptop deal, etc.). I already have a lot of Windows 10 codes, so I don’t think I’ll need to pay anytime soon.

Your school supplies you with the necessary Windows and additional software licenses, so you didn’t incur any costs.

Now that Windows is free to upgrade, you can simply start a Windows 8.1 and upgrade yourself. I shouldn’t be pushing it, but it’s happening.

Gray market listings mostly contain dreamspark keys that can be disabled whenever needed. They’re essentially invalid for anyone other than students, so it’s best to take advantage of them now.
