I was reading This Guide to set up the exclusive Nvidia driver on Fedora 24 with the 4.6 kernel. The instructions mentioned restarting to runlevel 3. Once I rebooted, I encountered these issues: the system created a rescue partition during installation, but it’s running the 4.5 kernel—the one from the installer—so I’m uncertain whether that can help resolve the problem.

I've learned my lesson with installing the nVidia drivers manually I dunno about Fedora, but for Ubuntu there is a dedicated ppa with pre-compiled packages

Start recovery, then reboot and clear the GRUB settings. Next, install the rpmfusion repository and proceed with the installation.

Determine if the action comes from inside a live CD/recovery partition or from Grub's command line.

The live CD or recovery method will function properly.

I fixed the grub using this discussion, but I keep experiencing a kernel panic when attempting to boot with the 4.6 kernel. It seems the issue lies more with the installation or kernel rather than the grub itself.

Change the root directory and build a fresh kernel or reinstall it.
